Ozai is the current Fire Lord of the Fire Nation, and is the second son of Fire Lord Azulon, the first son being Iroh, Ozai's brother. Ozai was married to Ursa, Zuko and Azula's mom but she was banished by Ozai for an unknown reason. Ozai is very ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Ozai hungers for more and more power.

Ozai banished Zuko when he was only 14 and gave him a scar during an Agni Kai. Zuko was banished for being disrespectful during a war meeting. The only way Zuko could return home with his honor was to capture the Avatar, who had not been seen in 100 years.

Ozai was not suppost to be Fire Lord because he was Fire Lord Azulon's second son, the Fire Lord was to be Iroh. But since Iroh's son Lu Ten died, Ozai argued to Azulon saying that the bloodline would end after Iroh, and that Ozai had children which could take over after him. Ozai asked for Azulon to revoke Iroh's birthrite and make him Fire Lord. Azulon was outraged at this, Azula was watching secretly and if she was telling the truth his punishment was for Ozai to lose a son. Ursa heard of this and did something of it and the next morning Ursa was gone, Azulon had died and Ozai was Fire Lord.
